At Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri's request, Oldsmar City Leaders participated in a press conference to inform the public of an attempted computer intrusion into the software that operates the City's water system on Friday, February 5, 2021.
The intrusion was quickly identified and stopped. The City's water system was not compromised, and the water remains safe for consumption. Additionally, this system is not connected to the City's utility billing system, so no customer data was ever at risk.
Local, State, and Federal investigators are working together to identify those responsible. Other utility providers have been informed of the intrusion, so they can take their own protective measures.
